Why this Topic is Important to Me
My topic is whether or not athletes of the NCAA should be paid in compensation for all of the work they do and the revenue they bring in through their play. I chose this because I myself am an athlete of the NCAA. I know my schedule is packed as a division 3 athlete and I couldn't imagine what it is like to be a big time college athlete. I feel like I understand the pain of these athletes and I believe it is about time they receive some kind of compensation.
Who I Wrote To
I wrote my letter to the president of the NCAA, Dr. Mark Emmert. I chose him because he is the one who goes under a lot of fire for this issue. He had come out and said publicly that under his rule the NCAA will never pay athletes. I wanted to show him there are simple solutions that are fair to everyone in order to compensate the athletes.
Other Choices
Other topics I could have wrote about were changing the rules of the NCAA to allow the athletes to get part time jobs in order to make some money. The biggest issue is that these athletes are so jam packed with their sports they have no way of income. Allowing them to have jobs would be a great way to solve that.
Want to Get Involved?
If you would also like to get involved the best way would be to write to Dr. Emmert as well. This is a huge national debate. The best way to make a change is to speak up. If enough people let their voices be heard I believe a change will be made.
